In this AU, Hylia was reincarnated as Link, not Zelda. Zelda served as a decoy for Link, leading Demise's forces to believe she was the goddess reincarnated. Their journeys were mostly the same, though Link did not undergo the Silent Realms as they appeared in canon. Instead, these areas were similar to the springs Zelda visited on the surface, each area bringing back memories of his past as the goddess. However, as he was already struggling with issues of self-perception, especially those concerning his gender, he had a hard time accepting these visions as past memories of his.
It was only when Link visited Zelda in the past that he received concrete proof that he was indeed the goddess reincarnated. He would have to embark on another quest to come to terms with this and remember the plans he had set in motion thousands of years ago. Zelda returned to the present to help Groose hold back Demise with assistance from Link, who used his past memories as a reference to help strengthen the seal.
Eventually Link comes to terms with his past identity, accepting that it has no bearing on who or what he was in the present, but that he still had an important job to do to ensure the safety of all.

As Link is trans* in this AU, his voice sounds a little different than it does in canon. He otherwise looks pretty much the same--just as cute and as precious in canon!
